Layne Thompson

Layne Thompson

President

Layne’s passion for construction originated from his intrigue with architecture and the creation of space within the built environment. Experiencing how a project can be first conceived virtually and then realized in the real world never gets old for him and drives him to this day. Layne’s background includes roles of Project Engineer, Estimator, Project Manager, Preconstruction Manager and Principal on numerous high-end residential and commercial projects. Using ingenuity and collaboration to capture value for his clients by building better, faster and more efficient projects is the fuel that continues to drive him.

In the spring of 2014, Layne joined the Magleby team and jumped at the challenge of managing the newly founded Magleby Construction Sun Valley group. Later that year, Layne’s wife, Kellie, and their three children moved to the Wood River Valley from Jackson Hole and have since enjoyed calling the area home. Layne enjoys spending time in the outdoors cycling, skiing, backpacking, rafting and fishing. Layne holds the following certifications:

Destry Simpson

Destry Simpson

Project Manager

Destry began working as an electrician during his summers while attending Carey High School in Idaho. He participated in the school’s building academy, and helped build the program’s first home. Destry has worked in heavy civil construction as a foreman and project engineer. He also worked for a local general contractor and as a manager of a local business before joining the team at Magleby Construction.

Destry enjoys staying busy, working outside, and living in the country, where he enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife and little girls. Destry holds the following certifications:

Clayton Karrels

Project Manager

Clayton started his construction career with internships in heavy civil work and eventually transitioned to project engineer and assistant superintendent jobs for commercial mixed-use development. Clayton holds a BS in Construction Management from Boise State University and has spent time professionally in both the Idaho and Oregon markets. He was happy to return to the Wood River Valley to join the Magleby Team where he has quickly proven himself as an organized and dedicated Project Manager. In his free time, Clayton enjoys being active—participating in multiple outdoor and indoor activities, including hiking, biking, skiing, reading and gardening.

Don Cunningham

Project Manager

Don has had a long career in education and service—having spent time both domestically and abroad. He has studied and worked in Spain, Ecuador, Alaska, California, the Caribbean and many other exciting locations. Despite this worldly exposure, Don has always considered the Wood River Valley his home, where his children were born and where he spent 20 years prior to taking a position for a non-profit organization in Seattle. After five years out of state, Don chose to move his family back to Hailey. Don worked as a custom home project engineer prior to joining Magleby Construction. Don enjoys the process of managing projects in a way that ensures that trade partners, designers, craftspeople and the client are well informed and continuously kept up to date – resulting in high quality homes that serve individuals and families for generations. Don loves all outdoor activities including skiing, water sports, fishing, hunting and camping.

Chris Hoy

Project Manager

Chris Hoy began his career in construction over 20 years ago as a framer in Twin Falls Idaho. After advancing through the ranks, he started his own framing business and then decided to return to school to pair his field experience with a professional management education. He continued to work building custom cabins in Island Park and Jackson Hole, but upon graduation relocated to Utah and managed a truss plan for a heavy civil construction company. He was excited to find a role with Magleby Construction back in Idaho – where he now lives with his wife, Sylvia and his 8 children- 6 boys and 2 girls. When he isn’t working you can find Chris cycling, snowboarding, mountain biking, and camping with his family, or tinkering on his vintage Mustang.

Luca Lamotte

Site Manager

Luca loves working close to home and family after spending many years building wind turbines around the country. He joined the Magleby Team in 2014 after 6 years working as a project engineer and civil superintendent in the wind turbine sector. Luca grew up in Boise where he enjoyed wrestling in high school and attended Boise State University.

Luca made his home in Hailey, Idaho where he loves to take advantage of the outdoors—including hunting and fishing.  He holds the following certifications:

Nathan Adams

Nathan Adams

Site Manager

Nathan grew up in Bellevue, Idaho and attended school in the Wood River Valley.  After serving a mission for his church, he returned to get married and start a family.  Prior to joining Magleby Construction, Nathan worked for a local restoration company doing project management and estimating.  That well-rounded experience made him a great fit for the Sun Valley group and he joined the Magleby team in 2016 as a Site Manager. Nathan is married to Dawn Adams and has 4 children Georgia, Olivia, Grace and William. He is passionate about the outdoors and spending time with his family.  Nathan loves this community and enjoys the opportunity he has to serve the people of this Valley.

Mike Bullock

Site Manager

Mike Bullock has resided in the Wood River Valley for over 40 years and has worked in the field of construction for most of his career.  Mike is an extremely versatile tradesman and construction manager- having mastered everything from heavy equipment operation to structural welding and fabrication to tilework installation.  He has managed luxury custom homes, town homes, remodels and commercial projects.  Prior to joining Magleby Construction Mike was working for Sun Valley Company supervising construction of a commercial laundry facility and eventually the Sun Valley Lodge remodel.  Since joining the Magleby Team in early 2016 Mike has been a site manager at the fast paced Diamond Back project in White Clouds.  Mike also served as a fireman for the Hailey fire department for 7 years and holds a Wildfire Equipment Operator certification.
Mike and his wife Wendy, who works for St Luke’s, have a grown daughter and son and they all love to spend summers together at Magic Reservoir- boating, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors.

Chad Webster

Site Manager

Chad grew up in the Wood Valley and learned at an early age the value of great design. After graduating Wood River High he went to architecture school where he spent 4 years studying the craft of fine design and art. Upon completion of his fourth year he decided to take time off to learn how to build first-hand through the trades. After working as a carpenter for a couple of years his life turned to the construction side of building and he switched his degree focus to Construction Management. He received his BS in Construction Management in 1998 from Boise State University. After college he spent two years working as a project manager for a home remodeling company in Boise, then moved his focus to starting his own company. After working for himself and gaining a wealth of knowledge in business and construction, Chad decided to return to his roots and found a home at Magleby Construction back in Sun Valley.

Chad enjoys snowboarding, art and architecture. Chad holds the following credentials:

Byron Bosch

Finish Carpenter

Byron grew up and went to high school in Anchorage Alaska. He started working in construction during high school, but took a few years off following graduation to pursue his passion for skiing. Byron’s adventures took him all over the United States to some of the best ski resort towns in the country. Bryon went to Sun Valley in 1989 for “two” months and never left. He worked in the trades for years in Sun Valley, honing his skills and craftsmanship and joined the Magleby Team in May of 2017 as a Finish Carpenter. Byron has one daughter, Tyler Anne, that lives in Tempe Arizona. Byron’s favorite things are powder days, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.

Donavon Romell

Prior to joining Magleby Construction, Donavon spent many years working as a superintendent for a large general contractor– specializing in custom residential homes in the Wood River Valley, and completing a number of projects for the Sun Valley Company. His experience in high-end, quality construction, made him a perfect fit for Magleby’s Sun Valley team, where he joined as a finish carpenter and has been able to lend his professionalism and craftsmanship to the Diamondback and Thunder Spring Residences projects. Donovan and his wife, Kim, have 2 children- a daughter that is attending ISU and a son at Wood River High School. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, hockey and anything outdoors.

Garrett Howell

Prior to joining the Magleby Team in 2016, Garrett spent time in Utah managing the construction of a bio-diesel plant and the most recent five years with Professional Roofing in Bellevue.  In addition to his field experience, Garrett holds a degree in Construction Management from BYU and embraces Magleby’s commitment to “Professionals Dedicated to Building Excellence.”  Garrett is a skilled equipment and crane operator and carries his CDL license.  Garrett, his wife and 3 children live in Hailey where they love to explore the outdoors—including swimming, camping, target shooting and hiking.

Gary Wilson

Estimator & Assistant Project Management

Gary Wilson started with Magleby Construction as an Intern while attending BYU Idaho. Gary’s work ethic and enthusiasm for the construction industry lead to him being hired as an Estimator and Assistant Project Manager upon receiving his BS in Construction Management in early 2017. His involvement in both the Diamond Back and Thunder Springs projects have quickly helped him gain a deep understanding of the local Wood River Valley trade base and Magleby’s unique ClearBuild™ approach. Gary grew up in West Jordan, where he met his wife Chelsey. They have one daughter and enjoy traveling, spending time with family and being outdoors.

Brian Gallagher

Property Service Technician

Brian Gallagher has had over 40 years of construction experience making him a perfect fit for the Magleby Construction- Sun Valley- Property Services Group. His ability to assess and address almost any issue allows him to efficiently manage the needs of our clients. Outside of construction, Brian’s other passion is swimming—where he has 45 years of coaching experience. Having lived in the Wood River Valley for 40 years, Brian loves to take advantage of all the outdoor activities it has to offer—skiing, biking, hiking and of course, swimming!

Vicki Pitcairn

Executive Assistant

Vicki grew up between Idaho, Montana and California, where she attended Merritt College of Stenography.   She returned to the Wood River Valley in the mid-80s and spent over 20 years working at Smith Optics in a variety of positions–  most recently serving as Manager of Customer Service.  When Smith Optics relocated out of the area, Vicki decided to look for a new opportunity and joined Magleby Construction as an Executive Assistant in late 2017. Vicki currently lives in Hailey with her husband Matthew.  She has one daughter, Janel, and her first granddaughter, Chloe Lynn, who she loves to spoil!  Vicki enjoys the outdoors, camping, hiking, snow shoeing and ATV riding.
